The KUHN MDS range of fertilizer spreaders offers a simple and adapted solution for distributing fertilizer in specialized crops and fields of mixed crop/livestock farms.

Two of the most popular models, the MDS 17.1 & MDS 19.1 are intended for mixed farms and have basic capacities of 700 and 900 litres, respectively. These high basic loads together with the flexible hopper extension system ensure maximum performance.

The following hopper extensions are available:
for a MDS 17.1 – M430 (400L) which increases capacity to 1100L / 22 cwt / 1 ton.
                             M630 (600L) which increases capacity to 1300L / 26 cwt / 1.3 ton.

for a MDS 19.1 – M430 (400L) which increases capacity to 1300L / 26 cwt / 1.3 ton.
                             M630 (600L) which increases capacity to 1500L / 30 cwt / 1.5 ton.
                             M430 & M630 which increases capacity to 1800L / 36 cwt / 1.8 ton.

HOW TO OPEN AND SHUT THE OUTLETS?
The MDS 17.1 is fitted with manual levers to operate the outlets, but has the option of a double-acting hydraulic cylinder.

The MDS 19.1D2 comes standard with 2 x double acting hydraulic cylinders which enables individual opening of the left / right outlets.

The MDS 19.1Q is fitted with a Quantron A control box with 2 x electric actuators controlling the outlets – the fertiliser flow is automatically adjusted depending on the forward speed.
The MDS 19.1Q model is GPS compatible

The MDS 17.1 & MDS 19.1 share all of the following key features.

1 – FLEXIBLE DISCS FOR VERSATILE APPLICATIONS

With its flexibly adjustable vanes, the Multi Disc System (MDS) spreading discs are able to spread all types of fertilizer, fine seeds and slug pellets with highest precision and adapted spreading patterns.

2 – QUICK-ADJUST PALLETS

MDS discs are fitted with pallets that can be adjusted quickly without the need for tools. The spreader can therefore be adapted to normal or border spreading within a matter of seconds. Exclusive to Kuhn.

3 – QUICK-FIT DISCS
Both discs can be removed quickly and without the need for tools making light work of calibration checks, hopper emptying and cleaning.

4 – SINGLE-HOPPER BASE

MDS 17.1 & MDS 19.1 spreaders are all built with a single hopper base. This design has the following benefits:

· no risk of an aperture blocking whilst spreading on one side as the fertilizer continues to flow through the opposite outlet,
· all available fertilizer is fed to both outlets, a benefit which is particularly welcome at the end of the session,
· when spreading on steeply sloping fields, the fertilizer will not slide to one side of the hopper resulting in the other side being emptied more quickly.

5 – SLOW ROTATING AGITATOR

The slow rotation (180 rpm) ensures a regular flow without grinding or clogging, even when spreading on one side.

6 – REINFORCED GEARBOX
It is the heart of the machine. It is fitted with reinforced drive shafts and gearwheels.

7 – GRADUATED QUADRANT D.F.C. (DIRECT FLOW CONTROL)MDS 19.1D2 only

Setting the application rate per hectare is an important step in the spreading process. This operation has been made particularly easy by the new large-size quadrant with its new proportional rate graduations. After checking the calibration, the user can change the application rate directly on the graduated quadrant.

For example, to reduce the application rate by 10%, the lever just needs to be moved to a 10% lower mark. The D.F.C. quadrant also allows you to change the aperture if field conditions allow you to travel faster: on increasing speed from 10 to 12 kph (+20%), all you have to do is set the aperture to a 20% higher mark.
